Two of the most frequent and frequently asked questions in college football are "Who is No. 1?;" and which champion is the best of all-time?

As with anything, each person has his say-so in answering both.

Throughout the 137-playing seasons, a total of 79 schools have staked claim to the mythical title--claiming 520 championships--based on the opinions of 110 of the well-know selectors, past and present.

So, which one is the greatest or the most successful champion of all-time?

In this age of computers and formulas, many variables go into the determining the greatest champion of since 1869--college football's inaugural season.

Since mid-February, I have taken on the task to find out what college football champion is the highest ranked--by using a formula based on three factors:

*Full Season: which includes final Won-Lost-Tie and scoring
*Schedule Rating: based on games a respective opponent played
*Selector Rating: Total Championship or partial ones a team has won.

Then after adding, dividing and sorting through an original database of 5386 lines, a composite of all teams was determined.

This compilation will represent the 37 teams that recorded a
1st-N-Goal Act-urarcy Ratings.

To explain the name of the ratings:
1st-N-Goal is the name of my college football StatResearch Service; Act_the stats are based on what a team actual accomplished during a respective season and urarcy part of the word accuracy which involves the annual selection for national championship.

Factors and sources:

SEASON RATING:

Takes into consideration a team's won-lost record and points by champion and its full season opponents

OPPONENT RATING:
A Rating that is based on the number of games each opponent has played during the season.

SELECTOR RATING:
Each selector names a national champion and is assigned a value per number of teams selected by that selector.

1st-N-Goal RATING:
After adding, dividing the above this rating has been determined.
