Need Stats?
New: Intercollegiate Football
Researchers Association (IFRA)
Two of the most frequent and frequently asked questions in college football are
"Who is No. 1?;" and which champion is the best of all-time?
As with anything, each person has his say-so in answering both.
Throughout the 137-playing seasons, a total of 79 schools have staked claim to
the mythical title--claiming 520 championships--based on the opinions of 110 of
the well-know selectors, past and present.
So, which one is the greatest or the most successful champion of all-time?
In this age of computers and formulas, many variables go into the determining
the greatest champion of since 1869--college football's inaugural season.
Since mid-February, I have taken on the task to find out what college football
champion is the highest ranked--by using a formula based on three factors:
*Full Season: which includes final Won-Lost-Tie and scoring
*Schedule Rating: based on games a respective opponent played
*Selector Rating: Total Championship or partial ones a team has won.
Then after adding, dividing and sorting through an original database of 5386
lines, a composite of all teams was determined.
This compilation will represent the 37 teams that recorded a 1st-N-Goal
Act-urarcy
Ratings.
To explain the name of the ratings: 1st-N-Goal
is the name of my college football StatResearch Service;
Act_the
stats are based on what a team actual accomplished during a respective season
and urarcy
part
of the word accuracy which involves the annual selection for national
championship.
